How can de-escalation be different for women than for men?

A lot of the techniques and tools I teach in my de-escalation trainings are drawn from my own experience.

Which is fine, except…

…except I’m a six-foot-tall middle-aged white male.

I have no personal experience de-escalating conflict as a petite young woman, or an African-American man, or a transgender person, ora  person with a disability, or… anyone else.

I believe that most of the tools I teach are universal, but WHO you are does impact WHAT you do (and don’t do) during conflict.

To that end, October’s live training is “De-Escalation from a Woman’s Perspective.” It will be a conversation among three women I work with at the shelter who are exceptional at de-escalation.

We need your help:

Do you have a question about de-escalating conflict as a woman?

For example:

  • How do you respond when someone gives you an inappropriate compliment about your body?
  • What do you do when someone refuses to take you seriously because you’re a woman?

You can submit your questions here:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe9Q8xunc4vputHvVdT-9oQEzdZM1Ra-BQvplxoJNUvgCLptQ/viewform?usp=dialog

If your organization is not a member and we select one of your questions, we will give you a complimentary ticket to the live training on October 22.

Have a great week!

Peace,

Ryan
